Internet followers, Stopping the Fat Guy received its first review the other day. If you’re interested in what was said you can check it out on Goodreads here. I cannot tell you how excited I am. Getting a review, even if it was someone I proctored for one, feels like a huge stepJ. I have to admit, I feel re-inspired all over again.
With the review comes a realization of an error I made within the book though. This is probably common among first time self publishers. The act of self publishing is a bit stressful, frantic, and all over the place that some things are sure to pass through the cracks without notice. For me it was the lack of getting the small bits of Spanish in my book edited. It was one of those things my copy-editor and proof reader were not capable of doing, so I had intended on finding a separate editor for it. Somehow I forgot
Having such a big error makes me feel terrible. I can’t believe I put out a product that wasn’t complete to the extent I desire. But alas, I am but human.
The other lesson I learned through my first review is that people are going to take things in ways you’d never expect. My first reviewer draws conclusions to Quincy being highly based off the Green Arrow for several reasons. This caught me a bit off guard. Mainly because I’ve never read the Green Arrow and all the similar names happen to be coincidence. As for Queen City, well that’s a nickname of the biggest city where I live and Quincy Quiver just kind of rolls off the tongue. I can’t remember how I came up with the name when I was 14. Probably in the shower though. Either way, I’m glad that the Green Arrow similarities were brought to my attention. I’ll have to look further into his stories to better understand them and maybe avoid future confusion.
